China’s GDP hit 113 trillion yuan and 100 trillion yuan in 2021 and 2020 respectively; all provinces had a growth in 2021. This shows the strong resilience of the Chinese economy and the positive alcoholic drinks market.

The average unit price has been rising slowly from 2015 to 2020, only dropped in 2021 due to the jumping international logistic price hit by the COVID-19, showing a drinking trend of “Drink Less, but drink better”.

Imported wine and Chinese wine are almost preferred evenly. Chinese young consumers seem to be fond of domestic products, while imported wines are still considered to have better image and favored by many consumers.

Wine consumption occasions have been switched from gifting to friends’ gatherings, self-enjoyment, and business meals. Chinese consumers seem to drink wines more and more in their lifestyles.

More than 65% of consumers born from the 1960s to the 2000s drink wine, meaning wine is favored by every generation as a healthy and fashion drink, especially younger generations who are born from the 1980s to the post-1995s.
